Newsletter No.19 – Friday 31st January 2020

Dear Parents/Carers,

Masses and Assemblies

Well done to Class 3K who presented a lovely assembly on “Community” this week. Class 4P will be presenting their assembly on “Giving and Receiving” next Thursday 6th February at 2:30pm. There is a full list of Masses and Assemblies for this term at the end of this newsletter.

Uniform

Uniform will next be on sale on Wednesday 5th February from 8:50-9:30am and then every second Wednesday through the term.

Friends’ Association

These are the planned events being organised by the Friends’ for this term.

  • Friday 14th February – Valentine’s Day Disco/Film Afternoon 1:00-3:00pm
  • Saturday 7th March – Family Quiz Night 7:00-9:00pm (more details to follow)
  • Thursday 19th March – St Joseph’s Day Fun Afternoon 1:00-3:00pm

After School Clubs/Activities

The following clubs are now full and cannot take any more bookings – Monday Computer Club, Tuesday Boys Football Club, Wednesday Basketball Club, Thursday Boys Football Club and the Friday Art and Craft Club. Please note that this term you need to go online to book a club for your child on the School Shop, we will not be sending out paper forms. Also remember you can book places on the various Dance Stables Clubs by going onto their respective web sites. Unfortunately the Monday Gymnastics Club will not run for the remainder of this term and hopefully will resume in the summer term.

PTC Sports

Later this term PTC Sports are going to organise a Sports Afternoon for the school on St Joseph’s Day (19th March) and a Holiday Sports Club at Easter (6th – 9th April). More details to follow on these planned events.

Class of the Week

Congratulations to Class 3K who were Class of the Week for their lovely assembly on “Community” this week.

Attendance and Punctuality

Class 5L had 99% attendance this week and Class 3K had 100% punctuality. Well done to both classes.

First Holy Communion Retreat

The school is hosting the parish First Holy Communion Retreat tomorrow organised by the Sion Community. It is going to be a very busy Saturday as we also have the Year 6 Study Club, our regular clubs and lettings plus a 10th birthday party and a presentation event. It is nice to see the facilities being used at the weekend and these clubs etc. also generate a lot of income for the school. We hosted a very successful Jan Jam Music Workshop last Saturday and received very positive feedback from everyone involved which is good publicity for St Joseph’s. We are fast gaining a reputation as a welcoming host for borough and other events.

Non-Uniform Days

We held our latest non-uniform day today for school funds and I have listed the other days at the end of this newsletter. The days before half term will be for school funds and after half term for CAFOD’s Lenten Appeal. Can I remind everyone that if you are in non-uniform on a Friday, you should be bringing in your £1.

Staffing News

We are saying a temporary goodbye today to Katherine Trutwein who is going on maternity leave from next week as she prepares for the birth of her second child in the next few weeks. We wish her all the best as she gets ready for this happy event. We will keep everyone updated on the “baby news”.

Achievement

To end this newsletter on a positive note, this week I received the new and updated assessment and data information about the school based largely on our 2019 test results. This is produced by the Government to rate each primary school and to provide information for school leaders and governors. Based on our 2019 results, St Joseph’s is in the top 20% of schools nationally for both Reading and Mathematics. This is something to celebrate and a target for our current Year 6 cohort in 2020.

Yours sincerely,

J Alexander (Head teacher)
