Newsletter No.12 – Friday 20th November 2020

Dear Parents/Carers,

I hope everyone has had a good week and you are all staying safe.

Federation of St Joseph’s Junior and Infant Schools

The consultation period ends today and I hope to be able to share the outcome with parents as soon as possible.

Flu Vaccinations
The flu vaccinations will take place in school next Tuesday 24th November. We sent home the packs before half term with all the information you need regarding the flu vaccination, how it is administered and why it is being offered to all primary aged pupils plus Year 7. If you have not sent your form back please do so by next Monday.

Uniform
We are selling uniform every second week in school on Wednesday mornings from 8:30am to 9:30am. The next sale will be next Wednesday 2nd December. If you need an item of uniform in an emergency, please come to the school office.
With the current restrictions, we are trying to ventilate the classrooms and working areas as much as possible while ensuring that we maintain a comfortable learning environment for staff and pupils. This balance becomes harder as the weather gets colder so when we have very cold days I would recommend the children wearing an extra layer under their uniforms. All the rooms are heated but the advice remains to create as much ventilation as possible so we need to keep windows and doors open.

After School Clubs

The after school sports/dance clubs for each year group have all started. These are the clubs, days/times and which year group they are for:

Thursday – Year 3 and 4 pupils (3:00-4:00pm)

“November Harvest”
Many thanks to everyone who has donated food stuff and other items for our “November Harvest” appeal over the last couple of weeks. It is wonderful to see the display in the hall which we will leave up for another week before distributing the items to local food banks, organized by Ms Le and the School Council

Poppies
The ladies from the Royal British Legion came into school today to collect all the money we have raised from the sale of poppies and other items over the last few weeks. The asked me to pass on their thanks to everyone in the school community for your support. They will count the money and let me know how much was raised.

Book Fair
Our autumn term book fair has been running this week and we have already sold a lot of books which is great. The book fair will be open again next Monday and Tuesday morning from 8:00am to 8:30am for pupils in Years 3 and 4 and then 8:30am to 9:00am for pupils in Years 5 and 6 in the school library. As in previous years this will be an opportunity to buy books for your children, many at reduced prices (plus 99p off every book) and we will hopefully get lots of free books for the school.

Governors Fund
We are sending out a letter with this newsletter asking families to make a contribution towards our Governors Fund for this academic year 2020-21. I would normally have sent this out in September or October, but this year with everything that has been going on with the pandemic and lockdowns etc. I wanted to wait until we settled fully back into school. The letter outlines what the fund is used for and how to pay it. I have not increased it this year, again to try and make it easier for our families to contribute. Please note if you have already paid your contribution for this year, you do not need to pay again.

November
November is traditionally a month to remember and pray for those who have died or been affected by a death. Can I ask everyone to pray for families and indeed everyone who works or lives in our community who may have lost a relative or friend this year.
