Year 6 Newsletter No. 12 – Friday 20th March 2020

Dear Parents/Carers,

Thought I would contact you all before we close for most pupils today.

Obviously this is a difficult and challenging time for all of us and things are changing almost hour by hour. We do not know when we will re-open but I truly hope and wish that we can have our Year 6 pupils back in school at some point next term before they officially leave us on 16th July.

One of the effects of the closure is the cancellation of exams next term including of course the Key Stage 2 SATs in May. Speaking from a personal point of view as a grandfather of a Year 6 pupil (as well as the grandfather of a Year 11 pupil who should have been sitting her GCSEs next term!), I feel that all the hard work, revision and preparation for the tests has been worthwhile and valuable as the children will still have these skills and knowledge with them and can take it on to secondary school and beyond. Learning is never wasted and is for life.

We will be sending home packs of work which will include SATs revision materials and I would still urge the children to work through these. Even though they will not now sit the official tests in May, it is my intention to administer a full set of tests to the pupils to give us and you an indication of where they are plus the information from the teacher assessment. This is the least we can do after all the hard work and commitment from both pupils and staff.

My best wishes to all our Year 6 families, you have been great to work with this year. I look forward to seeing all of you at the Year 6 Leavers’ Production, Leavers’ Mass and Leavers’ Disco in the summer. Drinks are all on me!

Yours sincerely,

John Alexander (Head teacher)
