Newsletter No.7b – 18th October 2019

Dear Parents/Carers,

This is just a short newsletter with some reminders as we reach the half term break at school. It’s been a calm and purposeful start to the school year and I hope this continues when we return. Next half term is going to be very busy with trips, whole school projects and productions as we move towards Advent and Christmas.

Masses and Assemblies

We have had not one but two lovely assemblies in school this week. Well done to Class 4RB who presented their assembly on “Called” this Tuesday and Class 3K who presented their first assembly in the junior school on “Promises” yesterday.

After School Activities

The current timetable of after school activities ended this week. I have sent home another timetable this week so that you can book clubs for your children for next half term. The clubs are filling up quickly and some are already full so you need to send in the slip on the Monday after half term. Remember that some of the clubs are booked directly through the coach running them such as Gymnastics and the Dance Stables Clubs. I have had to move the Basketball Club from Fridays to Wednesdays; sorry that was my mistake in the original list. Hopefully all the children who have booked will be able to do Wednesdays.

I am listing all the clubs being run after half term and who to book them through. We now have 15 clubs altogether with some new ones added which is great and hopefully more children will be able to join up.

  • Monday – Gymnastics Club 3:15-4:15pm (all year groups) – book through the coach

Friends’ Association AGM

The next meeting will be on Tuesday 29th October at 6:00pm. We will be organising the Christmas Bazaar and the other events so we need lots of ideas.

Uniform/PE Kits

Uniform will next be on sale after half term on Wednesday 30th October from 8:50-9:30am and then every second Wednesday during the term.

Attendance and Punctuality

Congratulations to Class 3K and Class 4P who both achieved 100% attendance this week and Class 5L who also achieved 100% punctuality.

Class of the Week

Congratulations to both Class 3K and Class 4RB who are Class of the Week for the lovely assemblies they presented to the school this week.

Quiz Night (Friday 18th October)

Our former pupil Sinead Menekse is hosting a quiz night here this evening in order to raise funds to teach in Dominica next year. It is from 6:30pm in the school hall. Adults £5, children £3. Snacks and buffet will be provided, bring your own drinks. To book a table, contact Marion (Sinead’s mum) on 07492 743070.

Secondary Applications

Father Gerry will be signing the Certificate of Catholic Practice form for secondary schools after all Sunday Masses from 20th to 27th October.

Building Work over Half Term

Although the school will be closed for pupils next week it is going to be very busy as the building work which should have been completed over the summer hopefully is completed. The work on the roof of the Year 6 block will be completed and all the skylights will be replaced so we really need a dry week. In addition to these works, we are also replacing the artificial surface in the playground where the adventure trail is situated. This is now worn out and will be replaced by artificial grass.

Half Term

Just to remind everyone that school closes today for the half term break and re-opens on Monday 28th October. I would like to wish all our families a peaceful half term and hope the rain stays away and you get to spend time together.

Yours sincerely,

J Alexander (Head teacher)
