Newsletter No.20 – 7th February 2020

Dear Parents/Carers,

Consultation

Next Monday, we will be sending home a consultation document regarding the proposed future of St Joseph’s Junior School. Please make sure you receive a copy and I would urge everyone to read the document carefully and consider your response to it. Staff at the school will also be receiving a copy on Monday. There will be a 6 week period of consultation and part of this will be public meetings for parents to meet with governors and ask any questions. The dates for these meetings are in the document and in addition I will be putting weekly reminders in the newsletter. I cannot say any more at this time but the document will set out everything you need to know about the future plans for our school.

Masses and Assemblies

Well done to Class 4P who presented a lovely assembly on “Giving and Receiving” this week. Class 4RB will be presenting their assembly on “Unity” next Wednesday 12th February at 2:30pm (please note the different day for this assembly). There is a full list of Masses and Assemblies for this term at the end of this newsletter.

Valentine’s Disco on Friday 14th February

We will be holding a Valentine’s Disco/DVD afternoon in the school next Friday from 1:00-3:00pm. In the past we have held these in the evening but this year we want to hold it in school so that every child can attend and as a fundraising event for the school. Friday is also a non-uniform day so the children can come in their own clothes and bring their £1 as normal and in addition we will be selling refreshments at lunchtime and during the afternoon in the dining room including soft drinks so the children will need to bring money for that. One advantage of holding the event in the school day is that we will have the staff here but we also need some parents to help on Friday, mainly to sell refreshments, so if you can spare some time between 1:00 and 3:00pm next Friday that would be much appreciated. We are planning a similar event on Thursday 19th March for St Joseph’s Day.

Friends’ Association

These are the planned events being organised by the Friends’ for this term.

  • Friday 14th February – Valentine’s Day Disco/Film Afternoon 1:00-3:00pm
  • Saturday 7th March – Family Quiz Night 7:00-9:00pm (more details to follow)
  • Thursday 19th March – St Joseph’s Day Fun Afternoon 1:00-3:00pm

The next meeting of the Friends’ Association will be next Thursday 13th February at 6:00pm when we will be confirming the details for the above planned events and starting to plan events for the summer term.

After School Clubs/Activities

We will be putting the booking forms online from tomorrow so you can book the after school clubs and activities for after half term. Please note that this term you need to go online to book a club for your child on the School Shop, we will not be sending out paper forms. Also remember you can book places on the various Dance Stables Clubs by going onto their respective web sites.

Uniform

Uniform will next be on sale on Wednesday 12th February from 8:50-9:30am and then every second Wednesday through the term. Apologies we were unable to hold the planned sale this week but have re-arranged it for next Wednesday.

Class of the Week

Congratulations to Class 4P who were Class of the Week for their lovely assembly on “Giving and Receiving” this week.

Attendance and Punctuality

Class 4RB had 100% attendance this week and Class 4P had 100% punctuality. Well done to both classes.

Non-Uniform Days

We held our latest non-uniform day today for school funds and I have listed the other days at the end of this newsletter. The days before half term will be for school funds and after half term for CAFOD’s Lenten Appeal. Can I remind everyone that if you are in non-uniform on a Friday, you should be bringing in your £1.

Internet Safety

As we approach half term it is a good time to remind everyone of the importance of monitoring what our children are watching, playing, sharing or coming into contact with on social media through their phones, I Pads etc. Although these devices can be a window to the world and learning, they can also be places of potential danger so we all have a duty to be vigilant to what our children (and grandchildren) are seeing.

Half term

The school will close for the half term break next Friday 14th February at 3:05pm and then re-open on Monday 24th February.

Yours sincerely,

J Alexander (Head teacher)
